OFF-TOPIC: CNN interview and responses

My family and I would like to personally thank all of the wonderful people that have taken the time out to check out the blog and share some wonderful stories about finding change (the jingling and the metaphorical kind) in their lives. Over the next few days, I will post some of the delightful and inspiring stories as I recieve them!

Here is one interesting email I received along with a cute photo of where they place found change :

I just wanted to say that it's wonderful to see someone out doing this - and blogging it! I just wanted to let you know that I started something last year called "The Karma Kart" that is along the same lines as you. I was given a small shopping cart as a gift and I started using it to hold coins that I found. Soon my brother and a couple friends just started donating what they found on the ground.

I've included a picture of my "Karma Kart" for you to see.

I just thought you'd enjoy knowing that your blog put a smile on my face - 2,800 miles away in BC, Canada! Cheers! Tony.

Thank you so much.. and please feel free to send your stories so I post them on here along with my change totals :)

My most memorable find

When I was about 10 or 12 years old, I was with my mother in the car at a stop light. I yelled
"wait a minute, Mom" and jumped out of the car. Over in the grass laid a $1 bill. I moved fast so the wind wouldn't blow it away. I don't remember now what I did with it. I do remember my mom was wondering what on earth I was doing!

Love the site. My kids are fanatics about looking for money. They find change everywhere and even sometimes bills. Once my son found a $5 bill at walmart. It is sometimes embarrassing when your kids are diving in front of people in line to grab a penny, or are crawling around on a dirty floor of a store reaching under the aisle to look for change.

I need to get to the mall! So glad that I've been able to come along for your financial celebrity ride - and I'm getting some extra hits since the CNN coverage too! Hope to see you on The View next with the Other Barbara!

Such an awesome idea! I found you through CNN, but am a blogger myself. I will definitely be paying more attention to the ground :)

It often surprises me as a fellow collector that so much change is left untouched on our streets/floors of NYC.

I just discovered your page because of that article. What a neat idea! I've often thought that I should pick up change but almost never do. You're proof that every coin counts! Thanks for sharing your experience.

Nice to know that I'm not the only person who tries to pay myself as I walk out and about. I don't often find that much here in Seattle - usually a coin daily, here and there, sometimes more. Once I found a dollar bill. My sister's spouse finds a lot more - a $50 bill when I was visiting. Milwaukee WI must be the place to be. :)

LOVE your site! I too pick up money, it embarrasses my daughter to no end, but my son and I compete. I actually found 37 cents in Washington DC, amid all those panhandlers! I started this when I was about 10 and found $80 while picking up trash around my small town. I was hooked! Since then, I have found $60, many $20's and smaller bills, and much change! Keep up the good work!

I thought I was the only person who stops to pick up change. The best place to look--parking lots. People have keys and loose change in their pockets, and when they pull out the keys, out comes the change. I'm a student, and sometimes that fallen change has meant I could get a cup of coffee that day. But cudos to your plan to donate it--I sincerely hope your kindness returns to you tenfold.

Good work Humphreys.

I have a suggestion for you from my own experience. When I was in college in upstate NY, I signed up for a summer job with campus electrical maintenance. We were to install new fixtures in 8 large dorms. The students had just moved out and we were in before the cleaners. I was shocked to find in every room a handful of coins of every denomination scattered in the desks, empty draws, cupboards, on window sills & in every possible nook. I might have collected at least $40 from just one dorm.

If you can, sign up to run through or clean up a college dorm right after the kids leave. It'll be a bonanza.

That's pretty cool, good work. I think you should put it where it will earn interest, though. Teach the kids the power of compounding :D

Kudos to you and your family. May I share a secret with you? I have a recurring dream about finding change. A few pennies, nickels and dimes, but more often quarters. LOTS of quarters, which in my dream makes me feel as if I've hit the lottery. Does anyone else out there have this sort of dream? BTW, in real life, I also pick up change.
