Chalk up another twelve cents for the changepot. Nickel and seven pennies courtesy of the local supermarket. I tried a new recipe for Southern Fried Chicken.. i'm proud of the results :)
Were you thankful for all the blessings of 2007? I'd forgotten to update this blog for a hot minute here... we've been saving up the change we've found for accountability. So far it's $2.16. Year 3 of the changepot seems to have started rather slow. Today hubby found a dollar bill in the same mall where I found a $20 bill . Right now we haven't hit the double digits yet ::sigh:: I have faith though.
Kudos to the fine folks at the Runners' Mill- a generous sixteen cents sits in the changepot thanks to them. The day is still early- let's see if we find more coinage thus far!
We found a total of 4 lonely pennies laying on the floor. Sandy picked up two, I found one during my AM gym bout, and Othello spotted one and howled (actually, he didn't- I just wanted to mention my beagle on this blog :).
I don't see much hope for pingage in the near future. Once the cold comes, people tend to hold on to their dough with an iron grip!
---------------- Now playing: Def Leppard - Animal via FoxyTunes Didn't go out today. Stayed home and watched football all day. Got pigskin on the brain y'all
---------------- Now playing: Celia Cruz - Uno Te quiere na via FoxyTunes Que dia mas larga! Whoops.. this morning we shuffled around Staten island-running errands in some realllly bad traffic. All was not lost. During our first trip out- we noticed our tire pressure warning light came on. Gas station #1 gave us 4 pennies as we checked the pressure with the air machine (good reading). After looking the wheels over a bit, we (hubby, myself, and the gas attendant) decided it would be best to go to another air machine. Gas station #2 gave us two pennies and this time the tires were low. Hub gave it some air. As we pulled out, the light came back on. We finally caved in and bought a pressure gauge. Turned out we OVERinflated the tires. All is well now.
I paid a visit over to the bank where the changepot cash is held. The teller was the exact same girl who was there when we first opened up the changepot account. She was shocked at how much we'd found in two years. Being a typical CSR, she was suggesting we tuck some of it away in a CD since we were getting a little under 4.2%. I politely thanked her but didn't entertain the idea too much. The changepot grew by 11 bucks in one year. Now with over 600 in there, perhaps it will grow a bit more. Quien sabe?
We racked up a dime at the grocery store. and two pennies in the parking lot- making it an eighteen cent day. Woohoo.. at least it's something, right?
Long day indeed! Today Sandy went on a class trip to PA to visit that visionary Ben F's house. She came home excited and full of pennies. Sadly, she was ripped off at some food place= $11 for chicken fingers, small fries, and a small beverage. I'll have to go there and give them my opinion someday!
Hubby found a few dimes while running errands. He's headed on yet another tedious business trip but as usual, he will report his finds daily via email for accountability at a later date :) Little baby kitty even found two pennies at school- she kept them in her skirt pocket and happily handed them over as soon as she got home from school. I love our chats:
Mommy! I found Ping!!
Good girl! How much did you find?
Twenty five cents! (I inspected her hand- two ugly pennies and no silvery coins in sight)
Excellent babe. That's two cents but it's still money. Come on over to the coin jar and insert it.
Nothing makes her happier than to be part of the ping crowd!
Despite the ugly weather, the Krabs found a total of $0.82- three quarters, one nickel, and two pennies- the quarters in the return hopper of a vending machine and the rest scattered around staten island.
Somewhere- in the distant depths of Pelham Parkway, a newly crowned 34 year old is blowing out 35 birthday candles and singing Lissette Melendez tunes, dancing around her kitchen as her pernil and maduros finish cooking. Happy Birthday Candy!!!
Today was another productive day for the Changepot. Four dimes, two nickels and twelve pennies converged in four separate pockets. The dimes were discovered at the gas station in Brooklyn as hubs filled up his GOV. The nickels were from the girls during recess, and the pennies appeared in various changepot jean pockets and some from the earlier year's findings that weren't counted until FY 2007.
Here's a video for a friend of mine- a fellow Queensryche fan. Enjoy!
You and I long to live like the wind upon the water. If we close our eyes, we'll maybe realize there's more to life than what we have known. And I can't believe I've spent so long living lies I know were wrong inside, I've just begun to see the light.
Long ago there was a dream, had to make a choice or two. Leaving all I loved behind, for what nobody knew. Stepped out on the stage, a life under lights and judging eyes. Now the applause has died and I can dream again...
Is there anybody listening? Is there anyone that sees what's going on? Read between the lines, criticize the words they're selling. Think for yourself and feel the walls become sand beneath your feet
Feel the breeze? Time's so near you can almost taste the freedom. There's a warm wind from the south. Hoist the sail and we'll be gone, by morning this will all seem like a dream. And if I don't return to sing the song, maybe just as well. I've seen the news and there's not much I can do...alone
Is there anybody listening? Is there anyone who smiles without a mask? What's behind the words--images they know will please us? I'll take what's real. Bring up the lights.
Is there anybody listening? Is there anyone that sees what's going on? Read between the lines, criticize the words they're selling. Think for yourself and feel the walls... become sand beneath your feet.
Wow.. here's to another year of the changepot! For some odd reason my totals are off so I'm starting the count for year three as of 12am EST 10/10/2007.
The total amount deposited (year 2) is $264.24. Here's to yet another year of successful coin huntings and semi-regular accountability! Cheers!
Tomorrow is Changepot's birthday- 2 years old! Between yesterday and this morning, we've found a total of $0.25- two dimes and five pennies. All in all, it's been quite a productive two years- tomorrow I head to the bank to deposit the year's total. Right now it stands at : $264.24
What a day! Today we sold the silver coins we found in 2006 at a coin show. Top that with a few coins found in the street, we increased the changepot today by a whopping $43.36 . I'll break down the totals for which coin later on when I have time. Right now I'm sleeeeepy!!!

Figured I'd sneak in a changepot update before the game comes back on. Ding! Another twelve cents to the pot (3 coins: 2 pennies from Brooklyn, 1 dime from Staten Island) I can't wait until the celebration!! Two years wow.
What do you think about this for my next tattoo? I wouldn't choose blue though.. it would have to be compatible with my skin color.. let's see :)
Hubby stopped traffic to retrieve some lonely nickels (four in total). Staten Island drivers aren't very sympathetic to the ping cause. Fortunately, my husband has the scowl of an angry bull that can ease any tempers from flaring his way. Add also twelve pennies and a dime to the mix- thanks Sandy and Rite Aid!
JOBA RULES!
Six more days and the Changepot will celebrate its second Anniversary- the total amount that will go in the bank as of today (10/3) is $220.51. Woohoo! Few more days left!
Total today: $0.42 Total thus far $220.51 Total that would be in the CHANGEPOT as of today: $610.48
Sandy and hubbs made out like bandits this week. Add another $1.60- a dollar bill (school), five dimes, and ten pennies during our weekend errand running.
Congrats to my Hawks for the crushing victory against the Frisco 49ers. This has got to be the best picture i've seen in quite a while.
Wow.. what a task to account for almost a week and a half of no updates! Chalk up an extra $1.73 in change found in a variety of spots. Hopefully I'll be more descriptive at some other point.. my mind is consumed with HOUSECALLS right now (my current manuscript).
Hey Billy- miss ya bud. Hopefully Florida will yield much more success for you than Staten Island did! Cheers.
Chalk up another $0.65 for the changepot. Not up for typing much. My tooth is killing me. Hopefully this man will make some magic at the stadium tonight. I just LOOOVE my yankees!!
Check this forward out:
The philosophy of charles schultz
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world. 2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners. 3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America Contest. 4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize. 5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress. 6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.
How did you do? The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners. Here's another quiz.
See how you do on this one: 1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school. 2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time. 3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile. 4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special. 5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
Easier? The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care. Charles Schultz was a wise man.
Documenting found change - from pennies to dollars- since October 2005. As seen on CNN, Fox News, and NBC.
