Updates...

The little bug Kitty caught in school spread like wildfire in my house- making it near impossible to go out on our daily routines. Earlier during the week, Sandy found a quarter, Hubby found a quarter and a nickel while on a gatorade run (we were all quite dehydrated), and the pennies just keep coming along (ten in all).



I have developed a serious addiction to Tangy Twister Mike and Ike candies (pictured above). While I'm sure it will do some sort of damage to my assorted fillings and cavity ridden teeth, the sour yummies are too hard to resist! Even in my sickness and against my better judgement, I shamefully indulged.

Hard habits..

It's hard to settle back into the routine of keeping the daily tabs of found change. In the past few days we've found a total of $0.70- two quarters, one dime, and ten pennies. School is right around the corner so I'm not too worried about the coin totals :) The Changepot will be two years old in a little over a month wow...

Today the Krab family headed out for some quality time at the mall. Upon entering, we spotted some pennies and a friendly maintenance worker. I think she knows our intent! Still we made out pretty good- four dimes, one nickel, and thirteen pennies for our lovely changepot.

Today I saw my good friend off to his new career as an Army soldier. He is going to Basic training down South. On my travels, I found a slew of pennies including four lonely cents in a freshly emptied trash can. I couldn't contain myself so I rescued the pennies and tucked them away safely in my changepot coin holder. Hubby found a Quarter and a nickel at work.

The emerging Krabs...

Apologies for not updating sooner. Yesterday I made a great find- a five dollar bill- right outside a fast food establishment. So far three out of four Krabs family members have found a five dollar bill for this FY06- Kitty is the last one to go. I've been finding coins here and there but I have been bad when it comes to reporting it.

The return....

Wow.. it's been a while since i've updated the changepot! My apologies as the Krabs' have been rather distracted. All is not in vain though- we have found many coins and have placed them directly into the jar without counting.

Today we found eight pennies in the gym parking lot. Hubby found a few quarters this past week and dimes have re-surfaced from a rather dry patch as winter turned into spring. School isn't providing as much change as usual- then again, we haven't really been searching as fervently as in the past.

Brand new day....

So much has changed in the past month or so. While we've all found coins here and here, I've been depositing the money directly into the jar without daily accounting. At this point I think the best thing to do is make a total re-count for 2007 and start from there. After I publish this entry, I will set about the task of accounting the change and posting the total.

Blunder!!

So lately I have slacked off quite a bit in updating this blog. I've been focusing my energy on other things and as a result, the changepot hasn't been documented properly. Over the past few weeks, I've been putting in found change directly into the amazing money jar without tallying up the total. Later on today I'll add it all up and start documenting it from this day forward.

Quick update-

Yesterday hubby found 27 cents- a quarter and two pennies while at work. I am sad to report that a nice sized cache of found change was deposited into our normal change jar by our darling Kitty Crabs. I need to find a new place to store found change until I can get to the comp for blog updating :( Normally I'd be upset but lately I've found a new way to relieve stress- weightlifting!!

No biggie. I'll just have to find more change to compensate for the $2.00+ loss.

Found a total of 23 cents as the snow continues to melt around here. Sweety found a dime at school, I found one in the parking lot, and three cents were uncovered at the 24 hour gym where we deposit 40% of our perspiration :)

Tuesday...

Found an impressive $0.51 cents in all different locations: gym, parking lots, and my daughter's school. If you could take a peek at me right now, you'd laugh your pants off. I'm currently wearing something called a 'sauna suit. This suit is meant to trap sweat and keep your muscles heated during exercise. I feel and smell like a giant hot air balloon... ahh the joys of physical fitness!

Lost in the snow!

So now we're covered in this sticky ice/snow/sleet combination. My neighbor shoveled the sidewalk last night only to find it full of crap this morning. I've not had much luck with finding change- 28 cents to be exact. Maybe if we get to go out, i'll find a frozen twenty buried in the snow lol.

Jersey Gardens was quite packed today. Since I didn't get a chance to work out this morning, I put on my valentine's day present from hubby and the kiddies- a polar F11 hrm - and went shopping. Weekend Re-Cap

Saturday was spent reminiscing at grandma's house. We walked around the neighborhood and found loads of pennies. Hubby found some change at school and once we got home, we forgot to update our little changepot. Sunday was a less strenuous day but we did manage to find some pennies here and there. Sandy found one dime at school today. While I was out for a bit, I couldn't find any change. The weather looks promising over the weekend though. On a happier note, (happy for my cholesterol that is) I overcame the urge to eat White Castle due to the sudden rat attacks in New York City. Now I wonder how many hotfooted lil' rodents scamper around my favorite mini burger joint? Will I ever regain the confidence to eat out again?? Paranoia@!!!! What is this world coming to??

Beware the ides of March

What a good start for the first day of the month! The weather was fairly nice considering the touch of winter elements scattered about. I found a quarter in the parking lot of my favorite nail salon and Hubby found a penny outside a dollar tree store. Today was day two of the three hour cardio bonanza and hubby feels 1000% better than last week. Funny what a little exercise can do for the winter blues!

Today I took my 9 year old to the gym after school while mom watched Kitty. The little walk paid off as we found $0.48 cents on the way there. Sandy found a dime at school as well, making our grand total $0.58. Once we got to the gym, I was informed that my child can no longer go to the gym as the minimum age is now 16- apparently someone got hurt or made a fuss about kids in the fitness center. On a brighter note, hubby took me to platnet fitness- a 24 hour gym here in Staten Island. I love it! We did cardio for 2.5 hours straight while watching six televisions simultaneously... woohoo!

Harder to come by.

Locating ping is harder and harder these days- if it isn't snow, it's general malaise that seems to curb crowds as of late. I found a penny with a cross in the middle. How odd! I wonder if the bank will accept this penny when I deposit it in October? It's still change to me though :)

Two other pennies were found- one in school and the other on the stairs. Fortunately for us, hubby found a soggy dollar bill in the slushy snow. I think the five dollar bill (the first paper find for 2007) is calling out for more companions. Hubby lovingly tended to the dollar and nursed it back to health. Welcome to the changepot, mr. bill !!

The first paper find of 2007!

Congrats to Sandy Cheeks- she found a five dollar bill today! She also found a penny and a bridge token. The token is going into the foreign currency jar. This is Sandy's second paper currency of her life- the first was a ten and a one as we walked home from the grocery store. This was approximately two years ago. This five dollar find is our first paper entry for 2007- YAY! I also found a penny while on the way to pick Sandy up from school.

Also, I forgot to add six cents from the other day. I've been idle on this blog due to the snow situation. Now that the snow is partially melted, i'm sure we'll find more change in the coming days.

Miracle coins!

Today we found $0.33 cents- four nickels, a dime, and three pennies. All four nickels were found in front of my house as the snow thawed out. I found one on my way back from the gym (figured it was the change guru's way to commend my efforts) and the other three while running various errands throughout the day. Hubby found the dime and pennies at work. I have a very funny cough but it's not quite as comical as my husband's. His sounds like muttley from the old hanna barbera racing cartoons... (wow. i'm showing my age here).

My apologies for not updating as much as I'd like- the snow/ice has pretty much limited our capabilities for procuring found change. Yesterday (Thursday), Hubby found $.55 at work. Earlier this evening, I found $0.11 while buying tickets to go see "Ghost Rider" WHAT A FILM!! I actually liked it.. even though it didn't stick to the original comic book. Nic Cage was great... I could have done without the Eva Mendez boobage display. For accounting purposes, I'll add the two day total for today.

The ice has really dampened all hopes of going out as a family since my babies are sick BUTTTT... Hubby found enough change to make this a profitable day nonetheless :)
Hubby and Mr. Rocco (of Piggy Bank) went out to the mall and found a few coins (34 cents worth) as Mrs. Rocco and I sang karaoke. Whitney Houston's "I will always love you" is alot harder to sing than I'd anticipated! Hubby said Mr. Rocco found 28 cents- including a dime hubby spotted but was beat to the chase- all in all a good day.

Today we found three pennies while catching some good bargains at the bullseye store (Target) with the Rocco's. Mrs. Krabs had an awesome workout with Mrs. Rocco- despite the horrible football game on TV. My hawks are gone until next season... I guess all's fair in love and football.

I am so happy with this particular little gadget. It's a Hello Kitty Ipod charger/alarm clock which we snagged at 50% off. After checking Ebay, it seems like I actually caught a good price on this item.

Coins were a-plenty on this bitterly cold day. Hubby came home with forty five cents (quarter, two dimes)- all parking lot goodies. Apparently the visitor's at his job left more than a bad taste in people's mouths. In the evening, we dined with the Rocco's and celebrated Mr. Rocco's birthday. Great food, great company.. what more could we ask for on a blustery January evening? You guessed it.. more change, of course. One dime and four pennies completed our day's total of $0.64.

Winter peeks in...

Today was one of the coldest days we've experienced thus far. It was a bone chilling cold that seemed to penetrate every layer of clothing worn regardless of fabric. Not a good day if you have a bad back or any other persistent seasonal affliction. We found two lonely pennies in a parking lot. That's it. Just two. I will stay positive since it's only January.

Side note-

I watched the President give his speech yesterday and I was not impressed nor surprised by the outcome. His speech implies that more of my fellow military families will become overburdened. It's bad enough that we've known a few soldiers that passed away in Iraq... apparently there's room for more death and decay. I won't rant about peace or disarmament but don't expect me to defend my political party on this one.

On a lighter note, I had a great tea party with my four-year old today. She is quite the cordial little hostess. Children have an uncanny way of making life a little more pleasant, wouldn't you say?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Today the Krab family stayed in and enjoyed a game day... The girls played with their Nintendo DS and I got to share some gametime with hubby as we relished in the thrills of the XBOX360 version of "The Godfather". I will never look at the movie the same way again.

No money found today... hopefully tomorrow will bring in a few coins.

Happiness is...

Finding eight cents on New Years eve! There may be more to come later since Hubby has some errands to do as well. Today's game was AMAZING!!! GOO SEAHAWKS!!!! I am very Happy with Hackett's sportsmanlike conduct despite the crappy reverse call early in the game.. I think I'll root for DJ from now on...

Today the hubby gave into commerical television and went to Pizza Hut to get the 3 Medium Pizzas. When Hubby returned, he reported that he found $.30- a dime and a nickel.

Today I had a chance to test out the coolest gift given to the Krabs by fellow coin hunters the Roccos of Piggy Bank renown- I transferred all this year's change into the Amazing Money Jar. The whopping change total amounts to $57.78 since October 2006. Dollars come out to exactly $88.00. According to our new gift, the changepot is over by twenty cents.. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!! I'd rather be over than under for a change!

Nothing but a good time...

Today we didn't find any money BUT we had some good clean family fun playing some basketball at the gym. Sandy scored 47 baskets in five games against Mr. Krabs aka "Larry Bird"- this man can not only score baskets inside the black line.. three pointers are his top specialty. I am very proud of them both.

On Saturday, hubby found a dollar bill by the liquor section of the shopette and a penny by the cashier as he bought some coconut rum. We redeemed our bottles and cans today- chalking up $3.45 (Three dollar bills, a quarter and two dimes) for the Changepot fund. Hubby and Mom are out doing some last minute shopping so I won't know if they've found anything of note to put here thus far.

Times are tough.

Despite my looming infection, hubby and I have gone out multiple times running errands and the like. Results? NADA. People are starting to pinch pennies it seems. One very cool thing happened today though. As I was cleaning out my library, I found my husband's camel-bak (which he uses in place of a man-bag during the summer). The last time he'd used it was during our trip to Sesame Place. As I shuffled the bag, I heard a jingling sound. I found five pennies which looked in bad shape. He smiled and said "Oh yeah... I must have forgotten to give it to you when we got back home!". So today, we claim the cents for strict accounting purposes.

Coke updates

After collecting some coke bottle caps for a few months, the Krabs received their prizes: one coke holiday 2006 truck and a coca cola game set. We gave the game set to Sandy and the truck to Kitty (she was quite happy with it). We've still got a few points left.

Update: Chalk up eleven cents for the changepot- one nickel and six pennies waited for us at the grocery store where we did our christmas feast shopping.

misdiagnosis..and a dollar.

after going to the emergency room with 105.1 fever, we found out that I have strep throat. Hubby got my meds and ran a few errands- snagging 16 pennies in the process. He found a dollar bill at the pharmacy where he picked up my medications. I{m still a little dazed but at least the fever won't pass 102.

it's a bird it's a plane... it's INFLUENZA!!!

Well ladies and gents, Mrs. Krabs officially has the flu. You're probably wondering why i'm online if i've got the flu- I guess this blog is just too important to ignore (as are the bills lol).

Before I was tyson punched by the nasty strain of the flu, hubby and I made last minute shopping rounds. The money found today was all on the street as we waited for the light to change color. I found a 1958 quarter right around the corner from the firehouse on Richmond Avenue. Can we sa SILVER?! Current value : $1.75 (or it may have changed.. I am too delusional to look it up. As hubby went to retrieve the change, three other pennies, including a 1940 wheat (worth nothing right about now).

A word of advice to my cyber change hunters and accidental readers: THE FLU IS OUT THERE! I wouldn't have known it was the flu until I started tallying up the symptoms (which are) :

a. extremely high temperatures (I've reached 104.6 twice)
b. tolerance to high amounts of fever reducers/pain medication (advil, and tylenol didn't do anything for me)
c. fatigue, vomiting, and serious muscle aches.

i'll be on my way to the hospital tomorrow. Fun.

another fun day...

Today we found five pennies scattered around Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn. The continuous topic of conversation today was our amazing change find yesterday. Hubby brought up the fact that we havent really "hunted" since early October and since the majority of change was found on campus (as usual), it could easily have been finals week that yielded such finds. Personally I think this find cushions the "bad month" we've had. Still, our outings left one family member in bed with what looks like the beginning of flu (just in time for Christmas.. yum)

Holy Moly!
We walked around here early this morning and found LOTS of change... we're talking over six dollars worth of change, folks! We made our way to an open field where a traveling fair had passed a few months ago, I am so shocked. We found $3.00 in change scattered around the area before heading out to the nearby mall (for breakfast) where change seemed to multiply in record numbers. Here are the totals for today and it's still 1:50.. meaning we have more daylight hours for ping hunting!!!!

Not much to report (just like yesterday lol). Hubby found eleven cents in the parking lot at work. No one else found anything since it was such a bleah day. Need some more pizzazz to get me through the seasonal slump. Drinks anyone?


UPDATE: daddy's quick trip to the drugstore yielded fifteen cents (dime and nickel) as he purchased cough syrup for the girls. GO SEAHAWKS !!!!

Three out of four Krabs family members made their way to the mall. Two dimes, one nickel and sixteen pennies later, the family emerged victorious on an otherwise mediocre day.

Breakfast with the bearded one...

Today we took the girls to have breakfast with a tired looking Santa. He smiled and politely listened to the children's requests like a real trooper. Must be tough!

We found a whopping $0.50 today! Our first find was a quarter on the way to the breakfast (thanks to Bri for that one). The gradual procession of pennies (ten in all) ranged from parking lots and other stores where people loved to push in order to secure the right gift for their spoiled brats. I was tackled by an idiotic redhead who didn't see where she was going. Fortunately I squared up my shoulders and stoodright in front of Kitty as she was headed in her direction (I don't care if people push me.. it's the kids I guard ferociously). We collided like two linebackers at Qwest field. I bumped her so hard she took a second to balance herself. I shot her an evil look as I ushered my child over to another section of the store. I hate the shopping season!

MallRats: The new plague.

Today the Krabs set out for some wholesome family ping hunting at the local Mall. We found lots of pennies -twenty in fact (People don't like pennies!). Sandy found the majority of the change in the oddest of places... what a pro! We found one quarter, two dimes, and twenty pennies. While we hunted, we picked up two lovely Christmas dresses for my girls... I am so proud! On a lower note, I must say I am quite disappointed at the mouth on these teenagers today- as we walked to our car, three thug Columbine wannabe goth kids said some disgusting things in front of my children. I don't know how I restrained myself especially since one said something so vulgar.... I kept reminding myself that this lil' sonofanitch is someone's son. OK.. back to happier thoughts.

One thing I do know is that Sandy Cheeks saves the day by finding six cents at school. I found nothing and while hubby is still outside (night class), I cannot with clear conscience count the nickel and penny until he arriveth.

I just sat down to watch the '94 version of the Flintstones movie and I am quite disappointed. The actors tried their best... but it wasn't enough.. really. I did happen to finish Final Fantasy III for the Nintendo DS as I took in this horrendous film.

It's raining quarters!

Since Hubby is still technically on vacation, we ran a few errands and found some coins along the way. We scored five quarters today (a serious oddity!) and some other coins including a bermuda quarter. The first stop was the grocery store where we bought groceries for the next few weeks. We found $0.53 and the bermuda quarter at the coinstar machine in the store. Luckily the machine is right next to the coupon section where I found lots of great deals on things I intended to purchase anyway and I saved myself over $3.00! Stop two was Hubby's job where we picked up some paperwork (the man is never really on vacation...people of his profession never really are for some reason). We found $0.26 in the form of one quarter and one seriously bent penny (he dug it up from the ground with a pen). Stop three yielded $0.56 (two quarters, one nickel, one penny) as we went mall hopping for a little bit to get some exercise.

I've been feeling under the weather lately. While I'm not totally sick (no fever or anything like that), I just feel completely off-kilter. After conferring with a family friend, I think I may have the "holiday blues"- a mild form of seasonal depression. Looking around yesterday, I don't think I'm alone on this one- people seem a bit disillusioned. Where did all the holiday cheer go??

X-mas shopping- DONE!!

Today marks the absolutely last gift for everyone on our list- except for each other, that is. Hubby is an extremely hard person to shop for.. so i'll be watching out for deals and such. As we purchased a few items at a local Costco, we found a total of seventeen cents (a dime and seven pennies). Hubby emptied out his ping bag from our seattle trip and found seven pennies from various parts of seattle, tacoma, and yakima- aka wine country! We have added the pennies to today's total.

Update- I am so exhausted from the weekend trip! The jet lag has affected us all- hubby's coming down with a cold, my ears feel like windtunnels, not to mention my appetite is completely off-whack. To all you frequent flyer folks and stewardesses, I don't know how you do it but I sure wouldn't want to trade places with you!!!

Back from vacay #2...

Our weekend trip to Seattle was amazing! While we didn't find much change, we did see some nice sights as we rekindled the family flame. We came back with a nice chunk of change ($1.22 in dimes, nickels, and pennies). I'll post stories and pics tomorrow since i'm tired and still celebrating my own personal holiday.
